AirMail
Size:  24" x 19"

This small work was entered into the Grand National 2005 - "Airborne" and also won Susan Burke's Curator's Choice Award Sponsored by Reichard's Dry Goods

Materials Used:  100% commercial cotton fabrics, Hand painted fabrics, Rayon Threads
Techniques:  Fibre weaving, Raw Edge Appliqué, Fusible Appliqué, Machine Quilted, Hand Beaded

Statement:  To adequately capture the spirit of this piece, Airmail needed to experience the process of being air mailed.  The completed, unbound quilt was cut into 16 sections (Post Cards), enclosed in envelopes, stamped and sent back to me via airmail from as far away as Scotland.  Once they flew home, they were joined back together to recreate the originl quilt. A process which required faith in our Postal Systems.
